Creative BNW Photography: Low-Key Self Portrait

One day I decided to take a photo of myself. The goal was to make it look dramatic. I wanted to express the spiritual pain I was going through. The low-key BNW self-portrait seemed like a natural choice to explore my creativity. Before setting up my camera gear, I dedicated some time to study the videos. These videos were about how to take dramatic look portraits. They were recorded by my favourite photographer guru Sean Tucker. He has an amazing YouTube channel that offers top class videos spiced up with his very spiritual approach. He makes photography true art.

I watched Sean’s video called “The Healing Power of Self Portraits.” Afterward, I prepared the setting to take a photo of myself. I used two lamps, both opposite to each other and on sides. One lamp was focused on the front right side of my face. The other lamp was focused on the back left side of my head. I tried different poses a couple of times. Finally, I came up with this one. It was definitely my favourite. I have to say this photo made me very proud.

I was going through a difficult period in my life. That is what makes this photo very special and important. In my opinion, this self portrait perfectly reflected my pain and suffering at that moment. Ironically it made me also internally happy as I managed to express my pain coming outside of my soul. So I presume that was the healing power of my self portrait in this particular case.
